On November 11th, the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace were honoured through formal Remembrance Day services across the country.
To honour and recognize this important day, the University of Guelph held its annual Remembrance Day ceremony and the University of Guelph Alumni Association (UGAA) had the distinct honour of placing a memorial wreath at the alter of the War Memorial Hall Chapel on behalf of all Alumni. Annually we take part in this service through formal readings, marching in the processional and laying the wreath to recognize all those who have lost their lives in the service of Canada, including University of Guelph alumni, faculty and staff who served in both World Wars.
It is an honour for the UGAA to take part in this service each year. It is one of the many ways we are committed to keeping the history and memories of alumni alive at U of G while continuing to look forward to the future.
As a ten-member board of volunteer alumni, the UGAA works in close partnership with Alumni Affairs and Development to build and sustain lifelong relationships with alumni, parents, staff, faculty and friends of the University of Guelph while strengthening alumni awareness and involvement at Guelph.
It is our mission to encourage communication among alumni and between alumni and the University community while fostering partnerships between the University and the public. We look for opportunities to give alumni a voice and presence on campus by raising funds for physical entities like the Gryphon statue, the new athletic centre climbing wall and lounge and the soon-to-be-completed Alumni Plaza, our own formal space at the foot of War Memorial Hall steps, where UGAA grads of distinction will be honoured.
We also have active representation in university life through roles on senate committees, awards committees, student councils and new student orientations that continue to add vibrancy and presence to University life through participation in convocations and student life initiatives. The UGAA is proud of our ongoing place within the University and our continued contributions to University of Guelph life and legacy and as graduates, we are all members. #Foreveragryphon.
